Next Step Summit for Youth in Transition

Next Step Summit main gathering

On April 25th, over 50 leaders from state agencies and community-based organizations gathered at the Chestnut Ridge Epicenter for the third annual Next Step Summit, a powerful day of conversation focused on youth aging out of foster care and those in transition ages 18–25. Presentations from state and community experts—including DOHS, Aetna, Coalfield Development, and the State Foster Care Ombudsman—sparked group discussions and actionable recommendations. Top priorities included creating a hotline and social media presence to raise awareness, improving communication across systems of care, and addressing the urgent need for affordable housing to combat youth homelessness.

The day ended with a joyful milestone: the first official flush of the Epicenter’s brand-new bathroom facility! With support from Barbour County leaders and donors, New Vision continues to expand the Epicenter’s reach with new restrooms, a kitchen, pavilion, and fitness space. As we look ahead, we’re also developing plans for New Vision Village pt. 2- a safe and supportive living space for young women aging out of foster care.
