From February 2-5, New Vision’s Bright Futures Youth Coalition traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend the National CADCA Conference, a national gathering focused on substance misuse prevention, youth leadership development, and building resilient communities.
This year’s theme, “Resilient Communities, Lasting Change,” brought together thousands of prevention professionals, policymakers, and youth leaders from across the country to share strategies that are creating real impact. Our students actively engaged in workshops, discussions, and leadership sessions, gaining valuable insight into how communities can better support young people and prevent substance use before it begins.
During their time in D.C., the group also had the opportunity to visit Capitol Hill and meet with West Virginia leaders, including Senator Shelley Moore Capito and Senator Jim Justice. These experiences allowed our students to see firsthand how community development, prevention programs, and youth advocacy connect at both the local and national level.
At New Vision, programs like Bright Futures are part of a larger mission to empower young people in Appalachia through mentorship, education, and opportunity—equipping them to become leaders who create stronger, healthier communities for the future.
